The Power Of Side Hustles

Save, save, save….

That’s all anyone talks about.

Including me. You better not be wasting yo’ monies.

But finance is a two-sided relationship between saving monies and making monies

Everyone loves the idea of making monies… until you realize you have to WORK to make the monies. That’s not too fun.

But if you want to make monies you have to do one thing:

WORK.

Periodtt. That means having a full-time job that can help you live and do basic human things like:

  • Eat
  • Drink
  • Sleep
  • Breathe

But seriously, you can’t complain about your income or debt if you’re not working 40 hours a week. I see this a lot on the Financial Audit where people are working part-time or “in-between jobs” and they’re having trouble making ends meet.

Some of it is truth, but a lot of it is bulls**t.

“But Caleb, I AM working a full-time job and still having trouble paying off my debt/making ends meet.”

Well, you’re gonna have to face the truth:

You have to pick up a side hustle.

Yes, that might involve working more than 8 hours a weekday and even working on the weekends.

Sad face.

And yeah, you’re gonna have to postpone:

  • Going out on the weekends
  • Watching your favorite TV show
  • Playing video games
  • Scrolling on social media

Even more sad face.

But this is required when you’re at a breaking point. You have to just work harder – which might suck – but will help you get past the breaking point and over the edge of “reasonable living.”

To be honest, having a side hustle doesn’t have to suck. It can actually transform your career, replace your full-time job, and even just start as a passion project.

For example, I have a background in music production (I can go harrddd on the trombone 🎺) so throughout college, I sold my music compositions online…

And I ended up making an extra $20,000/year from it – which was more than what my professors made from their own music at the time.

It was awesome.

There are plenty of ways to make extra monies in general. Some of them are more labor-intensive:

  • Working at fast-food restaurants/pizza shops
  • Doing UberEats/DoorDash in a busy city
  • Performing odd jobs (if you’re handy around the house)
  • Dog walking

Others can be more lucrative and chill:

  • Bartending/working as a server for tips
  • Donating plasma
  • Teaching/coaching/test prep

You can find freelance work centered around your main job/passion:

  • If you’re in IT = build computers for people or build home networks
  • If you’re in video production = editing photos and videos for people
  • If you’re in marketing = offer strategy/copywriting on the side

Or you can use your current skills/learn a new one to get work (like I did selling music compositions).

The world is your oyster.

I don’t know what that means, but everyone says it. Huh…

But yeah, pick up some side jobs and make more monies. It can help you pay off your debt, build your savings, and help you make it rain during Applebee’s Happy Hours.

Anything but OnlyFans – get your head outta the gutta with that one.

Caleb Hammer
